FOUNDATION
The history of the Faculty of Tourism goes back to the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, which was founded in 2005. In accordance with the 2013/4459 numbered Council of Ministers Decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 25th 2013 and numbered 28628, the School was closed and converted to the Faculty of Tourism. The department was established with the decision taken at the meeting of the Higher Education Executive Committee on 19th June, 2013 and started to admit students in the 2018-2019 Academic Year.
 
AWARDED QUALIFICATIONS:
Students who successfully complete all the courses (equivalent to 240 ECTS in total) in the program and achieve a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are awarded an undergraduate diploma.
 
PROFICIENCY LEVEL:
Bachelor Degree
 
ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
Admissions and registration to the faculty are regulated within the framework of Higher Education Law and rules. Students are admitted to the faculty according to the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Foreign Language Test (YDT), conducted by the Center for Evaluation, Selection and Placement (OSYM). The candidates who have received enough points from TYT and YDT for admission to the faculty are registered at the Registrar’s Office of the University on the dates determined by the Higher Education Council. Documents required for the registration are as follows:

1 - High school or an equivalent school diploma,
2 - Placement result document provided by OSYM.
 
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Before a student enrolls in the faculty, the courses that were previously taken from an undergraduate or associate degree program of a Higher Education institution can be transferred to the department by the decision of the Faculty Administrative Board, and the student can be exempted from this course or courses. Furthermore, for the English courses that are included in the educational plan of the department, proficiency exams are held at the beginning of each academic term. Students who are successful in the exam are exempt from the relevant course in the curriculum. In order to obtain a bachelor's degree, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (240 ECTS in total) that they need to take in the program and their GPA must be at least 2.0 out of 4.00. In addition, in order to graduate from this department, students are required to do 45 work days of internship (workplace training) in enterprises that are deemed appropriate according to the internship directive.
 
PROGRAM PROFILE:
The aim of the department is to educate qualified tourist guides and mid-level or senior manager candidates for the tourism sector by providing a scientific and quality education. For this purpose, it is aimed to train qualified tourist guides and executive candidates who have basic social values such as tolerance, courtesy, respect, honesty, leadership and representation skills, have the knowledge of Turkish history, culture and geography, can speak English and another second foreign language fluently and can build good human relations.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
Students who successfully complete the department;

1-Have information about the structure, functioning of the tourism sector and
   its importance in the development of the country.
2-demonstrate reading, comprehension, speaking and writing skills in English at least at C2 general level of European Language Portfolio,
3-demonstrate reading, comprehension, speaking and writing skills in a second foreign language at least at B2 general level of the European Language Portfolio.
4- effectively communicate verbally, non-verbally and in writing, and show presentation skills.
5-Know and perform group management principles.
6-Know social and professional ethical values, evaluate them critically and develop appropriate behaviours.
7-Use both basic information and communication technologies and software and those related to their own field of study at an advanced level
8-gain knowledge of the basic concepts, theories, principles and facts in management, economics and social psychology.
9-know the service processes related to tourist guiding profession and perform it in a way to ensure visitor satisfaction.
10-know and apply current management theories and applications in order to manage a travel agency effectively.
11-have detailed information about the culture, history and arts of the civilizations that lived in Turkey, analyze and interpret them.
12-Have detailed information about the geography of the world and Turkey.
13-Plan, perform and supervise a tour.
14-Have a basic knowledge of first aid and perform it.
15-Know and carry out the legal regulations and professional standards related to the tourism field and tourist guiding.
16-Define, analyse, synthesize, interpret and evaluate information and data  professionally.
17- work effectively with others and independently,
18-continually improve themselves personally and professionally, take responsibility for self-learning and demonstrate this.
19-recognize, understand and communicate with different cultures.
20- take care of personal care, hygiene, clothing and appearance as required by the field of tourism guidance,
21- recognize, use and maintain the physical environment, equipment and technologies related to the service area,
22-have knowledge about Atatürk’s principles and reforms, and adopt the basic values of the Republic.
23-develop individual abilities related to artistic and sportive subjects

 ADMISSION TO GRADUATE COURSES:
   Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate programs provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) exam and have sufficient English knowledge.
